Molteni Therapeutics products are made to sustain and improve the patient’s quality of life, to help physicians in the clinical practices, to meet the unmet medical needs
The earliest recorded treatments that took advantage of a photosensitizer and a light source, in this case sunlight, for medical use can be found in ancient Egyptian and Indian sources. 3000 years old annals report the use of topically applied vegetable and plant substances to produce photoreactions in the skin and cause pigmentation of depigmented skin lesions, as seen in vitiligo and leukoderma.
While the applicability and potential of PDT has been known for over a hundred years, the development of modern PDT was gradual, involving scientific progress in the fields of modern photonic devices, such as lasers and LEDs, as well as a better comprehension of photobiology and cancer biology. Indeed, most of the reports of application of PDT to treat clinical diseases have been in cancer treatment but in recent years a multitude of different non-malignant conditions have been investigated and successfully treated with PDT.
Molteni Therapeutics, thanks to years of investigation in the PDT field, developed its proprietary technology to address wound care and the management of skin lesions and ulcers, both uninfected and infected, to respond to the increasing unmet medical needs.
